Thailand’s Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) has introduced the Trademark Monitor Project, a government-led initiative designed to help Thai small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and entrepreneurs safeguard their intellectual property rights internationally. The program focuses on preventing bad-faith trademark registrations in China and ASEAN markets. This effort aims to strengthen confidence among Thai businesses as they expand overseas by providing proactive trademark monitoring and expert guidance.
Recognizing the firm’s market-leading IP services, the DIP selected Tilleke & Gibbins to conduct comprehensive trademark-watching services for key Thai brands and other participating Thai businesses. The firm’s IP team monitors trademark filings in multiple foreign jurisdictions, identifies potentially infringing marks, and promptly alerts affected business owners. The team also provides advice on legal strategies for challenging infringing marks abroad, including opposition and cancellation proceedings, and coordinate with local counsel as needed.
Participants in the program will enjoy one year of complimentary trademark monitoring services covering China and ASEAN markets, along with access to expert legal support from Tilleke & Gibbins to prevent infringement and protect brand identity overseas. The application period runs from November 14 to December 7, 2025, or until 100 trademark applications are received. Businesses interested in securing their trademarks are encouraged to apply early, as spaces are limited.
